Class Information

We have many subjects from which to choose. We hope you’ll join us in our spacious kitchen for lots of exciting classes! Most are hands-on so you have the benefit of learning by doing; demonstration classes are noted in the descriptions.

Our instructors are talented chefs. Their goal is for you to be able to re-create at home what you learn here. We encourage you to sign up early so that you have your choice of classes. Each class includes a copy of the recipes and a meal of the foods prepared.

How to Register for a Class

Registering for a class is as simple as picking up the phone and calling Sweet Basil at 480-596-5628. Please have your credit card or gift certificate with you. We do ask that payment be made at the time of enrollment. Once you are registered, you have confirmation of being enrolled. Put the class on your schedule and we’ll see you for the class(es) in which you have enrolled.

How Much Experience Do You Need to Take a Class

If you can read a recipe, you can take a class at Sweet Basil. Our professionally trained instructors are always close by to assist students with questions about techniques, directions or any concern with making a recipe in class.

How to Cancel a Class

If you must cancel a class, we will give you credit for another class with 72 hours or more notice. This credit is good for one year for other classes and we keep track of it at the store. If you want a refund for a class you have registered for, we require a week or more notice from the date of the class. No credit or refunds can be given with less than 72 hours notice before a class.

Kids & Teens Summer Camps

Please select the dates for your Kids & Teens Cooking Summer Camps carefully. There are no refunds given for canceling Kids & Teens Cooking Summer Camps. Kids & Teens Summer Cooking Camp classes that are canceled up to one week before the class, will receive credit for other classes.

Other Class Information

You do not need to bring anything to class other than a pen to take notes with. If you forget that, we have plenty to use while you are here. It’s a good idea to arrive a few minutes ahead of the start of class so that you have the advantage of choosing your seat.

We sit for a half hour in the beginning of class and after that the class is invited into the kitchen. If you would like to sit and watch rather than participate, that is fine with us. All of our seats provide good vantage points of the kitchen.

When you arrive, you should stop by the front desk to check in, then proceed to the kitchen to find a place to sit. There is water and iced tea available, so help yourself, and name tags are provided. Find a seat with an apron and recipe packet. Ladies can find a hook under the counter in front of your seat for your purse.

At the beginning of class the instructor will review the recipes. We encourage questions when you have them about any of the recipes. After the recipes are reviewed, students are invited into the kitchen to wash hands, then find the station with the recipe you would like to make. Everything you need has been set-up at each cooking station, but if you need an ingredient, utensil or how to turn on a stove top, don’t be shy to ask the instructor or assistant so that you can proceed with your cooking.

When all the food is ready, the chef will set up a buffet or will initiate plating of all the foods prepared. You will be able to have a full meal of the foods prepared. If you’re taking an evening class, it might be a good idea to have a little something before you come because the food will be ready to eat after 8:30 PM. All food prepared at Sweet Basil must be eaten there. Sorry, no doggie bags or leftovers may be taken home.
