July Cooking Classes at Sweet Basil Gourmetware & Cooking SchoolSPECIAL EVENTS

Chef Linda Martin teaches Essence Intermediate at Sweet Basil Chef Linda Martin is well-known for her 12-week ESSENCE OF COOKING class. (The next one will begin in October.) For some folks who want to learn how to cook the 12-week course is tough to fit into their busy schedules. If so, please take a look at her 4-week BEGINNING COOKING series which begins on Thursday, April 20th and continues for four Thursday evenings. (And remember, do not listen to the King in Alice In Wonderland who said: ““Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.” No! Keep on cooking & learning.)
Since we’re ignoring the King (Alice In Wonderland) who said, ““Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop” and suggesting that we should all “keep on cooking & learning” we want to alert you to some classes Chef Linda Martin has planned for people who are comfortable in the kitchen and familiar with the basics.
>>INNOVATIVE COOKING: Roasting & Grilling – Thursday – April 6
>>INNOVATIVE COOKING: Sauces & Sauté – Thursday – April 13
>>INNOVATIVE COOKING: Steam-Braise-Poach – Thursday –  May 18
>>INNOVATIVE COOKING: New American Cuisine – Thursday – May 25
Here’s a cliché that IS true: “Modern Pressure Cooker’s are not your grandmother’s (or grandfather’s) Pressure Cookers.” They’re a lot safer and still great time savers in the kitchen. Valley Culinary Instructor J. Whiting will be at Sweet Basil on Saturday, April 29th  for PRESSURE COOKER PRIMER and cover both stove-top and electric Pressure Cookers and DEMONSTRATE an amazingly wide variety of dishes that work great from meat, vegetables to rice pudding.
Was it really that long ago (2009) that Pastry Chef  (Hermosa, Restaurant Hapa, Gregory’s World Bistro and Cowboy Ciao and Sweet Basil Chef Instructor) Tracy Dempsey took the Valley (and then everywhere!) by storm with her Bacon Brittle? And then launched Tracy Dempsey Originals which became the source for many of the Valley’s best desserts? Well we’re just thrilled that on Saturday, May 20th BAKING WITH TRACY DEMPSEY will give you a chance to experience treasures like Salted Caramel Pudding with Whipped Cream & Cocoa Shortbreads.
Chef Lisa Brisch is an instructor at Sweet Basil Cooking School KNIFE SKILLS on Saturday, June 3rd is about the most important tool in your kitchen. Proper use of a Chef’s knife is vital for safety, speed and accuracy. Chef Lisa Brisch will guide you through the classic cutting techniques on ingredients that will end being part of a great dinner.
If a tie is what your Dad really wants for Father’s Day….OK. But if not we’d like to suggest you treat him to DAD’S DAY CELEBRATION with BOBBY GRIGGS on Friday, June 16th. Chef Griggs, whose day job is with Hammer Stahl Cookware, has put together a great menu for his DEMONSTRATION class at Sweet Basil: Beef Tenderloin & Kettle Chips and something else we all need – to quote Ellen DeGeneres – “more laughter.” With Chef Griggs you get all 3!
